Volunteer

We appreciate our amazing volunteers!

NSCC thrives because of the dedication of our hardworking volunteers. Throughout the year we offer opportunities to work in several of Norfolk’s cemeteries.

Adopt-A-Plot: The Adopt-A-Plot Program is an innovative concept in cemetery restoration, beautification, and preservation. It offers individuals, groups, organizations, societies and companies the opportunity to play a vital role in saving and preserving Norfolk’s historic municipal cemeteries. Cemeteries with plots available for adoption include: Cedar Grove, Elmwood and West Point cemeteries. Email or fill out the form below for more information.

Conservation: Our trained conservation volunteers do great work to restore and conserve Norfolk’s historic municipal cemeteries.  The NSCC Conservation Director, John Dill, leads this effort. Please follow us on Facebook to see examples of restorations projects.

Volunteer Workdays: NSCC hosts year-round volunteer workdays in Norfolk’s oldest historic municipal cemeteries.  Workdays are generally held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tasks include landscape maintenance, beautification projects, and monument restoration and cleaning, among others. Be sure to wear old clothing! Snacks and water are provided.

Volunteer Stone Masons & Bricklayers:  The cultural objects that contribute most greatly to Norfolk’s historic cemeteries’ cultural landscape are rapidly disappearing. NSCC needs stonemasons, brick-layers, and contractors in related fields to help us put monuments, brick foundations, and statues back together. This is our greatest volunteer need by far. Just a few hours of time can repair objects that will then stand for many years.

Volunteer Photography: Volunteer photographers are needed for NSCC events and marketing campaigns.
