2024 Cemetery Tours

We are excited to offer a wide variety of cemetery tours for 2024!

NSCC offers a variety of exciting tours that not only provide a detailed history about Norfolk’s cemeteries, but also insight into the interesting lives of many of Norfolk’s treasured residents. The tours are unique, so participants will gain different information with each tour experience.

Suggested donation of $5. PayPal and walkup donations accepted.  
Tours are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather or unfavorable conditions.

Yellow Fever Picnic/Walking Tour, Sunday, April 21, 6 p.m., Cedar Grove Cemetery

BYOB – Bring your own blanket or fold-out chairs. Join Samantha McDonald at Cedar Grove’s Potter’s Field as she takes you on a journey through the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1855. Hear tales about those who lived and died.

May 2024

A Victorian Cemetery Picnic!, Sunday, May 5th, 6 p.m., Cedar Grove Cemetery

BYOB – Bring your own blanket or fold-out chairs. Join Samantha McDonald as she reminisces about cemetery customs from the Victorian age and hear a few unfortunate tales from those who are buried in Cedar Grove (this is a sit-down tour).

Mishaps and Misfortune Tour, Sunday, May 26th at 6 p.m. Cedar Grove Cemetery

Join tour guide Samantha McDonald for jaw dropping and head scratching tales from those who are buried at Cedar Grove.

Letting the Dead Rest in Peace (A Halloween Cemetery Picnic), Sunday, October 20th at 3:30 p.m. Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Important information

Each tour is led by dedicated NSCC volunteers who are knowledgeable local historians and co-hosted by the Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks, and Open Space. Please contact Diana Ramsey, for inquiries and special requests for tours. 

  • Tours are a $5 suggested donation per person. You may walk-up and pay in person or pre-register via PayPal.
  • Tours and weather updates will be announced on our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on our calendar of events on this web site.
  • Restrooms will not be open for events until further notice.
